Whoopie Pi-rates!

I have just been informed through a very compelling YouTube video that the state of Maine is attempting to make the Whoopie Pie its Official State Dessert. Not so fast Mainiacs! We here in Pennsylvania, and more specifically, Lancaster County lay claim to the origin of this sinfully delicious confection. It was the Lancaster County Amish who introduced the Whoopie Pie to Maine. Has our generosity come back to bite us? I suppose we should have made it official a long time ago, but that would be like putting out a decree stating that Alaska is very often cold.

Suppose we decided that our state fossil should be the Pertica Quadrifaria, like Maine. That would be ridiculous since everyone already recognizes the Phacops Rana a PA’s state fossil. We are flattered that our northern friends enjoy the whoopie pie so much that there would be a movement to forever link the dessert with Maine. But really, why not Blueberry Buckle or Blueberry Pie? Everyone knows that Maine Blueberries are some of the best.

To further strengthen my case, Lancaster County has an annual Whoopie Pie Festival where attendees are treated to all sorts of whoopie pie delights. A movement of our own is underway. Sign the petition to block this egregious abuse of the Whoopie Pie!

Warning: this video contains scenes that may be disturbing to some.
